Dr L.Purnell and Paulanka model

This model is based on based on the cultural competence and its process:
Cultural Competence is the process of becoming aware of our culture, and how we communicate that awareness to the rest of the world. The Purnell Model for Cultural Competence is a sequence of circles or rings that each contain the development of this awareness of culture and how it continues to expand from the family to the whole world.
The first ring of the model holds the person. The second ring of the model holds the family. The third ring of the modelholds the community. The outermost ring of the model holds the global community. There are also different subsections inside each ring of the model that account for changes and evolution in the individual's cultural competence that include occupation, religion, education, politics, ethnicity and nationality, and gender. According to the model, all of these different subsections and circles continue on until the individual is culturally competent or aware.
Phases of Cultural Competency: The Competition cultural is appreciated as a progression non-linear A person gains cultural competence, progresses, recedes, and then progresses to a higher when he / she gets knowledge and additional skills and meets people of diverse cultures. The competent provider of health care needs to have a knowledge of its existence, sensations, thoughts, and environment without allowing these factors to have an undue effect on the recipients of these care. Cultural competence is, to itself, the adaptation of health care in a congruent way with the client's culture, and, therefore, it is a conscious and non-linear process.
So, in the real practise the Model is flexible with a high degree of fluency between domains and levels. Currently the Health care emphasizes the healthcare team that can benefit from a model that is appropriate and acceptable by multidisciplinarity that provides the staff. They are the Practitioners of health care who can evaluate, plan and intervene competently in a culture and have opportunities to improve health of the person, the family, or the community. The Model can guide the development of tools, planned strategies, and individual interventions, that can channel the continuous development of the model and theories.
