Intercultural mediation is a professional resource that intends to contribute to a better communication, relationship e integration between people or groups present in a territory, and belonging to one or several cultures.

The cultural mediator don´t have the power of decision, so are the parts who take decisions. Mediator is simply an assistent in the conflict. The principal work of the cultural mediator is to facilitate communication and promote social cohesion. promote the autonomy and social insertion of minorities. The profile of the mediator that best suits the current needs in European countries in this area is that of a person with a cultural background preferably, but not only common to the group of immigrants with whom interact (or at least with a link to this group), with migratory experience and with a long residence time in the receiving society.

qualities of the intercultural mediator figure, responsibility: the responsibility of the mediating person is in the process of mediation; It is in the relationship that is established between the parties.

The intercultural mediator does not substitute the professional or the user of the service to which he or she comes. The responsibility of the mediator is to facilitate communication between the two parties. If the mediating person becomes an intermediary, he will be taking from the parties the possibility, however simple, of starting to build a direct relationship between them.

Confidentiality: the mediating person must be rigorous with the information he has and not expose him outside the context of mediation, that is, keep everything that is spoken in the media secret.

Impartiality: the mediator must not position himself in favor of the approaches or interests of the entity for which he works, nor on the side of the immigrant because of their ideological or cultural affinity with it. In any case, you must ensure that they can make the decision that best suits their needs, interests and particularities.

Cooperation:
professionals often make demands that do not correspond to a mediator. Faced with this type of demands, the intercultural mediator must be able to reformulate its approach and adjust them to the multiple possibilities that it offers. You can do so by proposing actions that favor collaboration between professional services and the immigrant community.

Mediation has as initial objective to favor the accessibility of the users and to seek the compression of the recommendations that derive from the visits, its role is to establish a line of communication and cooperation between the user and the professionals of the services in the case of the health, between the immigrant population and the health services.
With the ultimate goal of improving the health of the person, the family and the environment, therefore, the first component is to improve access to services and establish a comprehensive communication between these two actors.

It is really important to develop this figure overall in northern countries that are receiving a lot of inmigrant population and these conflicts can be generated.
